Theater an der Wien and Kammeroper

The VBW opera divison

In January 2006, the Theater an der Wien – previously a musical theater – was opened as the city's new opera house and has since presented itself as a unique stagione opera house in the German-speaking world. The repertoire includes operas from the Baroque to the Modern era and offers the audience a new premiere every month at the highest artistic level – thus, the oldest and at the same time youngest opera house has successfully established itself both nationally and internationally. After a two-year major renovation, the opera house will shine in a new splendor in autumn 2024.Since the beginning of the 2012/13 season, the Wiener Kammeroper has been operated by the Theater an der Wien, complementing the Theater an der Wien's program with the diverse spectrum of chamber opera repertoire. For the reorganization of the Kammeroper since the 2022/23 season, the MusikTheater an der Wien expanded its support for young talents through the CAMPUS program.

Raimund Theater and Ronacher

The VBW musical divison

Up to 600,000 people attend performances in the four theaters each year, of which around 500,000 attend the musical productions at the Raimund Theater and Ronacher. Here, far-sighted programming enables contemporary long-run musicals of the highest quality. A balanced mix of international world hits and VBW's own productions offers the audience varied and impressive theatrical experiences every evening. In doing so, VBW places great importance on presenting European, German-language, and Austrian premieres, as well as new, self-developed musical works as world premieres.Musical performances in Vienna are always accompanied by the in-house orchestra, which, currently made up of 80 musicians, has developed into an outstanding and unique orchestra in the musical field.
